It might be hard to find a better 3-0 series than the Western Lacrosse Association semifinal that the Langley Thunder and the Coquitlam Adanacs are currently embroiled in.
The top-seeded Thunder can sweep the best-of-seven set if they win Saturday in Coquitlam, thanks to their 9-7 win Thursday in Langley. In their three games combined, though, the Thunder have only outscored the fourth-seeded Adanacs by a 27-21 count, and shots are 124-123 in Langley’s favour.
There’s also the small matter of former Coquitlam stars Dane Dobbie, Nick Rose and Damon Edwards all suiting up for two-time defending champion Langley after the trio demanded a trade at the roster deadline.
Rose, the goalie who won the league MVP in 2012, got his first start of the series on Thursday for Langley, but lasted just five minutes, 55 seconds, thanks to Coquitlam successfully calling him on illegal equipment. Rose picked up a minor and a game misconduct for the infraction.
It’s safe to assume Coquitlam was using some insider information.
The WLA’s other semifinal resumes tonight, with the second-seeded Victoria Shamrocks at home with a 2-0 lead on the third-seeded Burnaby Lakers.
The WLA winner plays host to the Ontario champion in the Mann Cup national final. The reigning Mann Cup champions, the Peterborough Lakers, evened their best-of-seven Ontario semifinal with the Brooklin Redmen Thursday night at a 2-2 with a 12-11 win in Whitby. Jordan McIntosh, off a feed from John Grant, Jr., scored the winner with three seconds left for Peterborough, who had trailed the set 2-0.
